World Ocean Day Beach Cleanup: A Partnership with Greenworms for a Healthier Ocean

TOGETHER AGAINST OCEAN POLLUTION

This World Ocean Day, we proudly joined forces with Greenworms for a Beach Cleanup and fishing net procurement event at Calicut Beach. Our collaboration brought together passionate individuals who collected 250kg of Low Value Plastics and 140kg of fishing nets. By removing these harmful materials from our beaches and waters, we're taking crucial steps towards restoring the natural beauty and health of our oceans.

TRACEABLE FOR A STRONGER IMPACT

Our commitment doesn't stop at cleanup. We are thrilled to announce that this initiative is fully traceable, showcasing our dedication to transparency in circular supply chains and our commitment to eliminate greenwashing.

Every piece of plastic and net collected during our cleanup is tracked, ensuring that we can account for its journey from collection to recycling. Traceability is crucial in building trust and accountability within our communities and the broader environmental movement. It allows us to demonstrate the real impact of our actions and ensures that our efforts are making a genuine difference, demonstrating our dedication to transparency in circular supply chains and eliminating greenwashing.

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT STEP

At Polytechnique Montreal, our research team has pioneered circular solutions to tackle the ghost gear problem. We've demonstrated the feasibility of recycling processes, turning ghost gear into recycled pellets suitable for manufacturing endless types of plastic products made by injection molding and 3D printing. This includes some of the most challenging materials that currently can’t be recycled globally due to contamination from steel and lead.

The fishing nets we collected on World Ocean Day will serve as a pilot project to evaluate our solutions on a commercial scale. This initiative is a vital step in exploring sustainable and scalable methods to address marine plastic pollution. By testing and refining our processes, we aim to develop effective strategies that can be implemented widely, contributing to long-term circular solutions.

HELP US HELP THE OCEAN

We launched this project on World Ocean Day to symbolize our unwavering commitment to protecting our oceans from plastic pollution. Our partnership with Greenworms is a testament to the power of collective action and the importance of working together to tackle global challenges. As we move forward, we invite everyone to join us in our mission to protect and preserve our oceans because together, we can make a difference.

To join us in making a real impact, you can donate today: 1$ donated = 1kg recycled!
